 DOG  & CAT  DIETS

Companion animals are increasingly important as people get older. Each requires
a safe, reliable diet to protect health and longevity.

Dr. Martin Goldstein, D.V.M., published  The Nature of Animal Healing in 1999,  (Random House Publishing Group). In all fairness we must determine  if there has been an improvement since 1999.

In “Unraveling the Mystery of Disease”, this Cornell University trained vet insisted  “It all starts with Food”. There were neither  minced  words nor sensibilities in describing the rendered animal and poultry parts (and dead pets)  that contribute questionable  “protein” to some  popular brands.

Here’s some Q’s & A.” prepared by Association of American Feed Control Officials, Inc. -  Re:  Pet Food Regulations :

Q.  Am I correct that parts from sick, dying, or dead animals are allowed? Doesn’t this pose a health risk to pets?

A.  Animal by-products which may include materials from animals which died
by means other than slaughter are defined explicitly as adulterated  unless  the materials are rendered in compliance with animal health and protein product regulations to destroy any potential microorganisms which may be in the products.  The processes used are deemed to be adequate to control risk of disease.

Q.  Beef spines and brains are allowed? Isn’t there concern for BSE (for Feline spongiform   encephalopathy in cats, for example?)

 A. Such materials can be used in animal feeds including livestock feeds and pet foods.

Narrator’s Query :

When humans consume animals and poultry raised on manufactured feeds they are sharing with their pets the burden of consuming “Rendered Animal and Poultry By-Products”. Are they also sharing the chances of developing the cancers and other diseases (of unknown origin???) to which their pets are increasingly prone?
